BILAT USA 2.0 is organizing an international full-day workshop on 6 October 2014 in Rome, the day before the EurOCEAN 2014 Conference. Upon request from the European Commission, the workshop will not only involve EU and US participation, but will also include Canadian, Brazilian and South African perspectives.
The US is currently ranked first in technology, innovation and R&D expenditures, and many European researchers and institutions have developed strong research links with US researchers and their institutions. However, there is also a large number of European researchers and institutions, including many in Member States (MS), that have not established strong research partnerships with US counterparts. In this year´s INORMS 2014 Congress, taking place in Washington, DC, on 10 – 13 April 2014, one session on ´Transatlantic research collaboration addressing global challenges´ will be organized by BILAT USA 2.0. Current developments regarding the transatlantic policy dialogue and strategic partnerships as well as new ways of supporting EU-US research collaboration shall be discussed among representatives from AAAS, Euraxess Links USA and the BILAT USA coordinator, DLR.

BILAT USA 2.0, represented by FFG, the Austrian Research Promotion Agency, will lead two international sessions at the NCURA Pre-Award Research Administration Conference, on March 20, 2014, in San Francisco, CA.
The BILAT USA 2.0 session during OSM 2014 will highlight priorities and funding opportunities in the areas of marine and arctic research within HORIZON 2020, while facilitating connections and partnerships among international researchers, universities, industry and SMEs. Examples of future and ongoing transatlantic and national programs will be discussed. BLUE GROWTH OPEN CALLS in Horizon 2020, and the eligibility for U.S entities to receive EU funding, will be a key component of this session. Additionally, rules for participation by U.S.
Within the relatively short time of their existence, ERC grants have become internationally recognised as awards for scientific excellence, with research institutions increasingly competing for attracting ERC grantees. Researchers from anywhere in the world can apply for ERC grants, provided the research they undertake will be carried out in an EU Member State or Associated Country. ERC projects can last up to five years and can cover „frontier research“ in any scientific domain, including social sciences, humanities and interdisciplinary studies.
