EU-US cooperation in Plant and Food Biosecurity

Your role in the project:
AGROINNOVA, University of Torino (Coordinator)
Assessment of your participation:
PLANTFOODSEC has 2 US partners: The National Institute for Microbial Forensics & Food and Agricultural Biosecurity (NIMFABB) at Oklahoma State University and Kansas State University (KSTATE). They receive funding within PLANTFOODSEC G.A. given the expertise developed in the field of plant and food biosecurity. This was a topic relatively new for the EU, while the U.S. developed some expertise in agroterrorism/security field after September 9, 2001.
Any suggestions or comments:
There are no particular threats concerning the implementation phase. However the future sustainability of PLANTFOODSEC Network may be at risk with lack of funding. It is for sure more difficult to access to grants where both U.S. and EU partners are eligible.
