Within the relatively short time of their existence, ERC grants have become internationally recognised as awards for scientific excellence, with research institutions increasingly competing for attracting ERC grantees. Researchers from anywhere in the world can apply for ERC grants, provided the research they undertake will be carried out in an EU Member State or Associated Country. ERC projects can last up to five years and can cover „frontier research“ in any scientific domain, including social sciences, humanities and interdisciplinary studies.

The presentation of the webinar held on 22 January deals with an introduction into H2020 and its structure, legal and financial aspects as well as international cooperation aspects and funding opportunities for US researchers.

It was held by the National Contact Point for International Cooperation at PT-DLR / EU-Bureau of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

Horizon 2020, the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation, is the world's largest funding programme for research projects. With a € 77 billion budget, it offers many possibilities for researchers and innovators of all thematic areas from around the world - international cooperation is highly encouraged.

The webinar with a special focus on transport research dealt with transport research calls in Horizon 2020, possibilities specifically for US researchers in 2015 calls as well as partner search and partnering opportunities.

At the Community level, the Union possesses three key funding instruments to support research and innovation: Cohesion policy which is funded through the Structural Funds and Cohesion Fund; the Research Framework Programme and the Competitiveness and Innovation Framework Programme.1
