WATCHME

The WATCHME project aims to improve workplace-based feedback and assessment and professional development by means of learning analytics. It solves the efficiency and quality problems of workplace-based feedback and assessment by means of an electronic portfolio system, that is enhanced with: a) student models that monitor the learners’ competency development, b) a Just-in-Time feedback module, c) visualisation tools that inform learners, teachers and institutes just in time as well as on an analytical level.

TWO!EARS

Understanding auditory perception and cognitive processes involved with our interaction with the world are of high relevance for a vast variety of ICT systems and applications. Human beings do not react according to what they perceive, but rather, they react on the grounds of what the percepts mean to them in their current action-specific, emotional and cognitive situation. Thus, while many models that mimic the signal processing involved in human visual and auditory processing have been proposed, these models cannot predict the experience and reactions of human users.

SUNRISE

We must learn to both sustainably exploit & protect our vast oceans, provider of oxygen, food, hydrocarbons & other resources. A solution lies in sensing & interacting through an Internet of Things, with distributed networks of intelligent sensors & actuators. Unfortunately, we currently lack a marine Internet, crucial to achieve distributed, coordinated & adaptive control, due to the rapid absorption of light & radio waves in seawater.

HBP

Understanding the human brain is one of the greatest challenges facing 21st century science. If we can rise to the challenge, we can gain profound insights into what makes us human, develop new treatments for brain diseases and build revolutionary new computing technologies. Today, for the first time, modern ICT has brought these goals within sight.

TRILLIUM BRIDGE

Motivated by the transatlantic eHealth Cooperation Roadmap, Trillium Bridge aims to bridge patient summary specifications in the EU and US to support interoperability for improved health and healthcare delivery, economic growth and innovation.
With an outstanding well-balanced consortium, Trillium Bridge leverages epSOS patient access and Meaningful Use/Transitions of Care use cases:
• Mobilizes people and resources creating a forum of collaboration and knowledge sharing

FLEX

FIRE initiative targets the creation of a multidisciplinary research platform for investigation and experimental evaluation of innovative ideas in networking and services. At the infrastructure level, such a platform should embrace all major wired and wireless access technologies.FLEX aims at contributing a crucial missing piece in FIRE's infrastructure puzzle:cellular access technologies and Long-Term Evolution (LTE) in particular.LTE 4G cellular networks are gradually being adopted by all major operators in the world and are expected to rule the cellular landscape at least for the current

WIKIRATE

Wikirate has the vision of helping consumers express themselves as ethical economic citizens. The objective of Wikirate is to be the 'go-to' place for information on companies' social and environmental practices, allowing consumers and stakeholders such as policymakers or the media to be better informed. Ultimately, the project will provide companies with additional incentive to act sustainably.

CITYPULSE

An increasing number of cities have started to introduce new ICT enabled services. However, the uptake of smart city applications is hindered by various issues, such as the difficulty of integrating heterogeneous data sources and the challenge of extracting up-to-date information in real-time from large-scale dynamic data. Today the challenges are often addressed by application specific solutions, resulting in silo architectures.
Bridging technology and domain boundaries, requires a scalable, adaptive and robust framework that provides:

PLAT4M

Silicon is now a mature integration platform that has brought CMOS microelectronics to mass-market application. The PLAT4M vision is that silicon photonics will lead to a similar revolution in the photonics sector.

CSNII

Despite tremendous progress in neuroscience, ICT and related fields we are still unable to build perceptive, emotive and cognitive systems that are comparable with even simple insect brains with respect to function, energy sufficiency or computational power. One promising approach to answer this challenge is to translate principles underlying the abilities of natural systems into new technologies.
