Horizon 2020 is the European Union's main instrument for funding research and innovation activities over the next seven years (2014 to 2020). It focuses on three overarching priorities – excellent science, industrial leadership and societal challenges, and is due to be launched by the end of 2013.

Recognizing the increasing importance of internationalisation in how knowledge is produced and used as well as the global nature of the many societal challenges requiring research and innovation solutions, Horizon 2020 is open to participants from anywhere in the world, building on the success of international cooperation in previous framework programs.

During the presentation the main elements of Horizon 2020 will be described in terms of content, types of activities funded, forms of participation, the rules which apply, etc. The different types of international cooperation which Horizon 2020 can accommodate – at individual researcher, collaborative project or program level will also be described.

EURAXESS Links North America will also be presented. This is an EU-funded networking tool and service for European researchers working in North America and non-European ones wishing to collaborate and/or pursue a research career in Europe.
